LinkTrace Privacy Policy

LinkTrace is a Chrome extension that highlights links you've already clicked on any website. This policy explains, in plain terms, what the extension does and does not do with your data.

Summary

LinkTrace does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any of your data. It has no server, no analytics, no account system, and makes no network requests of any kind. Everything it does happens locally inside your own browser.

What LinkTrace accesses, and why

Chrome permission	What it's used for
`history`	LinkTrace asks Chrome's local browsing-history API whether a given link's URL has been visited before, so it can mark that link as "already clicked" on the page you're viewing. This lookup happens entirely on your device using Chrome's built-in history API — your history is never read into a file, sent anywhere, or stored by the extension itself.
`storage`	Used to save your preferences — your chosen marking style (color/dim/strikethrough), your chosen color, and the list of sites where you've paused marking — in Chrome's local `storage.local`, on your device only. These settings are never synced to any server or account.
Content script on all sites (`<all_urls>`)	LinkTrace's core feature — marking visited links — has to work on whatever page you're currently reading, so its script runs on every page you visit to find links and check/apply their visited styling. This script only reads link URLs already present in the page's own HTML and never reads any other page content, form data, or personal information, and sends nothing off your device.

What LinkTrace does NOT do

It does not send any data to a server — LinkTrace has no backend of any kind.
It does not use analytics, tracking pixels, or crash reporting.
It does not require or support any account, sign-in, or cloud sync.
It does not read page content beyond link (<a href>) elements.
It does not sell or share data with third parties — there is no data collected to share.
It does not execute any remotely-loaded code. All code ships inside the extension package and is reviewed by the Chrome Web Store at install time.

Data retention and deletion

All settings LinkTrace stores live in your browser's local extension storage. Uninstalling the extension removes this data immediately. You can also reset it at any time from the extension's options page. LinkTrace never has a copy of this data outside your own browser, so there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf — there is no server-side copy to begin with.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change accordingly. Material changes will also be reflected in the extension's Chrome Web Store listing.
